Beverley Will Host Free Nordic Walking Sessions This Month

During the Walking East Yorkshire Festival later this month, Nordic Walking instructors will conduct a training workshop in Beverley.

The 1.5-hour introduction to Nordic Walking on Beverley Westwood will be led by JLS’s instructors Jenny Mackenzie and Louise and Sunil Mukerjea.

Nordic Walking with JLS was founded earlier this year by the trio, who have had over ten years’ experience in Nordic Walking.

The two were drawn together by a shared passion for the sport that originated in Finland in the 1930s when cross-country skiers trained for the winter season by ski-walking in the summer.

Jenny said;

“Nordic Walking is an enhanced, low-impact walking technique that uses special poles to work your upper body as well as your legs.”

“It gives you a highly effective all-over workout that burns around 20% more calories and uses up to 90% of the body’s muscles compared to walking without poles.”

“Nordic Walking is a fun and also social activity. It is great for helping people of all ages get fitter and stronger. While is also good for improving general physical and mental health and well-being.”

Learn The First Five Steps At Free Nordic Walking Sessions

“Join us on the 17 of September for an introductory Nordic Walking Workshop and learn the first five steps of the International Federation of Nordic Walking Technique. Then put it all into practice with a Nordic Walk around the beautiful Westwood to see for yourselves how amazing it is.”

With 43 members, the Nordic Walking with JLS Group is growing rapidly. On Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and once a month on a Sunday, free weekly walks on Beverly Westwood and in various locations in East Yorkshire attract walkers from as far afield as Filey and Holderness.

This is the first British Nordic Walking workshop, although Nordic Walking has been a part of previous Walking East Yorkshire Festivals.

Poles are provided for the free session, which starts at 1.45 pm and ends at 3.30 pm. To book, contact Louise Mukerjea on 07957 590189 or email jlsnordicwalking@gmail.com.
