Beverley Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Sophie Kemp says she is delighted with how an event aimed at young people went.

Held at the leisure centre, the Beverley Fun Fest was a big success. Numerous young people had the chance to find out what opportunities are available in the area.

Sergeant Kemp, the person who organised the event, commented;

“So many young people came along and took part in the activities and visited the community stands to talk to professionals about the career prospects available.”

“The armed forces stand was busy all afternoon. They have said that a lot of young people have expressed an interest in joining them.”

“The boxing club stand was also really busy and loads of kids signed up to go along to their fantastic club.”

“All of the feedback from those attending was really positive and because of this, I understand that it is something we will now be looking at to replicate across the Force.”

Event Will Hopefully Help Move Young People Away From Crime

According to Sergeant Kemp, she wanted to show people how many things they can be involved in. While it also helped highlight the opportunities there are in the local area.

By holding this event, she hopes to prevent young people from becoming involved in antisocial behaviour or crime.

She added;

“300 wrist bands were available for young people aged 10-17 to provide them with free fruit, hotdogs and drinks. Nearly all of these were taken up.”

“I think we are going to have to try and get additional funding if we are to run it again next year to make sure we have plenty to go around.”

“I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and had a great time. Also, I really want to thank all those organisations who got involved and I hope they got as much out of the day by engaging with so many young people as we at the police did.”
