A historic and ceremonial proclamation of the new king will take place in Beverley on Sunday, 11 September.
The proclamation of the new king will take place across the UK following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
For the announcement of the accession of King Charles III, the High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mrs Jacky Bowes, as well as the Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Jim Dick, OBE. They will join Councillor John Whittle, the Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Councillor Linda Johnson, the Mayor of Beverley.
A procession of civic dignitaries and other invited guests will make their way from The Guildhall through Toll Gavel to the Market Cross. This is where the proclamation is set to take place at 3.30pm.
The proclamation will be followed by prayers and the national anthem, followed by three cheers for King Charles III.
There will be two proclamations that day, the first taking place at 1pm in Queen Victoria Square in Hull and the second in East Riding.
Proclamation Events to be held across the East Riding
Prior to the proclamation, Saturday Market will be closed from 6pm on Saturday, 10 September until 6pm on Sunday, 11 September.
The taxi rank will remain open on Saturday evening, but on Sunday it will be temporarily moved to Sow Hill Road.
As His Majesty King Charles III ascends to the throne on Sunday, several towns and parish councils in the East Riding will hold their own proclamations.
These include;
- Hedon – Market Hill at 4pm
- Snaith and Cowick – Market Place, Snaith at 4pm
- Rawcliffe – The Green at 4pm
- Patrington – Market Place at 4pm
- Leven – Jubilee Gardens, South Street at 4.15pm
- Goole – Cenotaph at 4pm
- Bridlington – War Memorial Gardens at 4pm
Those attending the proclamation in Beverley can also leave any messages or tributes to the Queen in the book of condolence at the Treasure House between 1pm and 5pm.
The council is also inviting people to write condolences at its libraries, multi-service centres and also customer service centres. They can also be left on the website www.royal.co.uk.
