Retford FC Pinch A Point In East Yorkshire As They Draw With Beverley

Retford FC earned a point from their trip to East Yorkshire as they drew 1-1 with Beverley Town Football Club at Norwood.

Beverley will be disappointed with the result in a game they controlled for long periods. Retford took the lead in the sixteenth minute courtesy of an own goal by Town’s Alexander Kaggs.

However, Beverley re-grouped and pushed forward looking to get back on level terms. Their reward came when Samuel Calvert found the back of the net just two minutes before the break.

Despite their best efforts, Dave Ricardo’s side was unable to find a winner. Beverley came closest to securing all three points as they spent most of the second half on the front foot.

When Town did get a clear sight on goal they were unable to find a way past Retford’s keeper Jon Kennedy. Not to be outdone, Town’s keeper Rasmus Kriisa when called into action pulled off a couple of first-class saves.

In the closing stages of the match, Retford FC had the chance to pinch the game after they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. The shot however failed to clear the wall as the match fizzled out ending in a draw.

Beverley can take heart from the result. These were the first points Town has earned at home and were the better side on the day.

Once again a crowd of over 250 attended the game and they certainly got an afternoon of entertainment. Olly Baldwin was named the Gateway Chassis Man of the Match for his performance.

The result means that Beverley has slipped to twelfth place in the Northern Counties League. While for Retford they remain in fifth place four points behind leaders Campion.

Beverley Town will be back in action Tuesday evening when they welcome Glasshoughton Welfare to the Norwood Recreation Ground. Ricardo will certainly be looking for a response from his side in a match Town should be the favourites to win.
