Goole have gone top of the Counties 1 Yorkshire league after they beat Beverley RUFC 33-19 in the East Yorkshire Derby.
The defeat brings an end to Beverley’s perfect start to the season and sees them knocked off the top spot by their neighbours.
Ahead of the game, Beverley’s coach Craig Handcock was all too aware it was going to be a testing fixture. It was a match that saw first play second in the table so had an added incentive.
The Goole deserved and win and despite Beverley taking an early lead soon found themselves ahead. Once they got their noses in front they never looked back.
Beverley may on reflection view this as a missed opportunity. They were not totally outclassed by their hosts but instead they never ‘clicked’ on the field.
Goole also made life difficult for Beverley’s backs. Their aggressive approach led to a few niggles between the sides while it stopped Hancock’s side from playing to their strengths.
Rob Smith was named Man of the Match for Beverley. He was the only name on the score sheet for the visitors in the match.

Commenting after the match that the team knows they can play better. He said;
“Although disappointed with the result, we know we can play better, we just need to find ways to unlock teams like Goole. On our big pitch in Beverley, we look forward to doing exactly that in December for the return fixture.”
Hancock will be looking to put this result behind him. Beverley returns to action this coming Saturday when they host Huddersfield. The sides last met at Beaver Park back in December 2021 a match that Beverley won by just four points.
While overall Beverley has won the last two times the sides have met.
Beverley’s 2nd team also travelled to Goole with the 1st team and beat the 3rd team in an entertaining game from start to finish. Beavers won 17 – 36.
