Beverley Library In East Yorkshire To Launch Brand New Service

A new service is set to be launched in East Yorkshire at Beverley Library. East Riding Libraries will launch the new service on Wednesday, 5 October, with an event from 2pm to 4pm.

Scientists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians make up STREAM, the new service.

In order to support learning through fun, East Riding Libraries has developed a series of activities aimed at developing skills and interest in these key subject areas.

In addition to delivering activities with partners such as KCOM, Lab Rascals and Lion Learners, East Riding Libraries have also developed the project with grants from Libraries Connected, KCOM, and HAF.

In a statement a spokesperson for the council said:

“These trials have been an overwhelming success with exceptionally positive feedback from children and parents alike, who have missed out on so many learning and social opportunities as a result of the Covid pandemic.

“Now East Riding Libraries are ready to formally launch the service and publicise what it is all about.”

East Riding Libraries will continue to develop STREAM at the event on 5 October, which is held during National Libraries Week.

Attendees will see videos demonstrating how children and families are enjoying previous STREAM activities, such as Lego Art sessions held over the summer.

East Riding Libraries will demonstrate some of their resources, and how they are being used, as well as how the activity sessions offer educational and social value.

There are also new Lego Art kits, Duplo Storytime sets, and Lego Team Engineering Challenge sets, along with EaRL Robots, Makey Makeys, Code-a-Pillars, and Lego Boost Robots.

Also on display will be Chromatography Butterflies, a demonstration that combines creativity with science.

Caroline Wilkinson explained:

“For East Riding Libraries, using STREAM to manage and monitor our activities means that we can ensure that we offer good quality events that support these key areas of learning;  demonstrate their educational value to customers, listen to our customers and offer the kind of learning opportunities that they really want and need.”

No advance registration is required for the launch event, which will be free.  There will be refreshments available.
