Hallam had a good night in East Yorkshire as beat Beverley Town 2-0 to progress to the third round of the League Cup.
Two goals from Kieran Watson in the final ten minutes ensured the Northern Counties Premier Division side progressed.
Beverley played their part in a competitive game against a side who play in the league above them. Despite creating chances the home side was unable to find the back of the net.
This was another frustrating night for the Beverley Town supporters. On a damp night at the Norwood Recreation Ground Beverley certainly deserved something from the game.
However, while Beverley was the better team in the second half they failed to capitalise on the chances they created.
As the match looked like it was heading to penalties Hallam edged ahead in the 81st minute courtesy of Watson. The worst was to come for Beverley as looked for the equaliser when Watson again popped up to seal the win in the 89th minute.
Match With Hallam Was Always Going To Tough
This was always going to be a big test for Dave Ricardo and his side. Hallam was promoted last season as champions winning the league at a canter.
However, Hallam’s current league form and home advantage for Beverley ensured this was a much closer affair.
While Beverley was beaten, for large sections of the game they looked like they could cause an upset. Beverley had two penalty shouts, one in each half waved away by match officials.
Another good opportunity came when Beverley was awarded a free kick 20 yards out. However, they failed to hit the target.
Just moments before falling behind Beverley were unable to find the back of the net seeing a series of efforts blocked in the opponent’s box.
Beverley will be back in NCL action on 15 October when they travel to North East Derbyshire. They will face Dronfield Town who sit five places above Beverley.
