Beverley Building Society Strengthens Board With New Appointments

The Board of Directors of Beverley Building Society has been strengthened with the appointment of four new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).

According to Chairman Stuart Purdy, the candidates’ knowledge and experience will give a significant boost to the Building Society’s ambitious future strategy of expanding mortgage lending.

Society Chairman Stuart Purdy said of the appointments:

“We are delighted with the extraordinary calibre of successful candidates our recent Board recruitment process brought. It’s exciting to expand our commercial expertise through this wealth of varied and complementary skills.

“Strengthening our Board will also aid our succession planning process, ensuring we retain the strongest possible Board at all times going forward.”

Society Chief Executive, Janet Bedford, added:

“The Society is entering an exciting period with promising growth in our mortgage lending, significant investment in new infrastructure and talent and a renewed and growing community presence.

“I am confident that the new NEDs will bring a wealth of added benefits to the business, as we move beyond the current interest rate challenges and serve even more members into the future.”

Stephen Smith has worked in the financial services sector for over 30 years, most recently heading up Legal & General’s mortgage and housing-related retail businesses.

The Yorkshire-born Stephen brings practical experience in mortgage market distribution, growth strategies, and proposition marketing to Beverley.

Mark Robinson, a retired CEO of Market Harborough Building Society and an experienced NED, brings extensive experience in niche lending, distribution, IT infrastructure, and culture development.

Bob Andrews, based in Skipton, specializes in strategy and growth as well as governance and culture change. A 35-year veteran of the mortgage lending, operations, and insurance sectors, Bob will continue to lead Benenden Healthcare as CEO and lead the Association of Financial Mutuals as NED.

Having expertise in mortgages and banking, Barry Meeks is a highly experienced NED, senior independent director and committee chair in the financial services sector.

In addition to serving as Chair of Risk for a financial services and technology company, he is an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED). As a Chartered Director and Fellow of The Institute of Directors, Barry is also experienced in regulatory interaction and risk management.
