As part of the Help for Households campaign, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has agreed on a number of cost-of-living support measures.

As a result of utilising the council’s cost-of-living reserve, a number of recommendations were agreed upon.

There will be an allocation of £200,000 for the installation of cavity wall and roof insulation for up to 1,000 homes.

A grant of £100,000 will support the voluntary and community sector, help ensure its sustainability, and develop new initiatives for health and wellbeing.

Financial support of £200,000 is being offered to the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) and local food banks.

Efforts are being made by the East Riding Council to assist residents in need of financial assistance.

There is a one-stop page on the council’s website where residents can find out what support is available from the council, government and partners, such as the voluntary and community sector.

In a statement, East Yorkshire Council said:

“These three agreed measures demonstrate the council’s strong focus on community empowerment, supporting our excellent local voluntary and community teams, and helping our residents to cope with the pressures they are currently facing with the cost-of-living crisis.

“The investment we are making to help up to 1,000 homes be warm over winter with new cavity wall and roof insulation will go a long way to tackling fuel poverty and will help improve the health of those who need to keep warm, including those people who are disabled and those who feel the cold.

“Our food banks do an incredible job and have worked tirelessly through COVID and into this current year to keep providing low-cost and free food for those most in need.

“This is the first of many planned updates about how we can help cushion our residents of the worst of the impacts from the cost-of-living inflationary pressures.”
