A poultry rearing company in East Yorkshire is celebrating after one of its members won a prestigious farming award.
Last week, Mel Jackson of Middleton on the Wolds’ Clive Soanes Broilers was awarded Farm Worker of the Year at the Farmers Weekly Awards.
“I’m over the moon to win this award. Thank you to Farmers Weekly and to the judges. Thanks to Claire Wright for nominating me and to the team at Clive Soanes Broilers this one’s for you – what a great team,” said Ms Jackson.
This year’s Farmworker of the Year award was sponsored by The Original Muck Boot Co.
Darren Layard, vice-president of international markets, said:
“Mel’s perseverance and hard-working attitude shine bright. Her ingenuity alongside her dedication to animal welfare is truly inspiring, making Mel a very deserving winner of the Farmworker of the Year Award.”
Comedy legend Russell Kane hosted the black-tie dinner at which the awards were presented. These awards are organised by Farmers Weekly and honour British farmers who are hardworking and innovative.
In 2021, Ms Jackson joined Clive Soanes Broilers as Poultry and Farms Supervisor after 30 years at Soanes Poultry. She enjoys gardening and upcycling furniture when she is not working.
Since 1947, Clive Soanes Broilers has been rearing chickens. Across the country, Soanes Poultry sells chicken to butchers, independent retailers, restaurants, wholesalers, and catering butchers.
