A new curator has been appointed at an art gallery in Beverley, East Yorkshire. In the Treasure House building, Beverley Art Gallery welcomes Hannah Willetts.
The most recent role Hannah held was that of Freelance Collection Co-ordinator for East Dunbartonshire Museums. In this role, she was responsible for auditing and developing the Foundry collection.
The collection is probably the most complete of its kind in the UK, housed at Auld Kirk Museum and East Dunbartonshire Archives.
Last December, Helena Cox resigned from the council. Hannah succeeds her.
Since studying History of Art at the University of Leeds, Hannah has enjoyed a varied career.
As an Assistant Curator at Glasgow Museums, she improved public engagement with the collections, including an exhibition and US tour of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh collection.
Her previous experience includes working at the Hepworth Wakefield, a stint at Sotheby’s in London, and a stint as a valuations counter at Sotheby’s.
Hannah commented on her new role, she said:
“I’m so excited to learn more about Beverley and delve into the Art Gallery’s collection, exploring the work of the Elwell’s and other talented artists. Beverley Art Gallery has a brilliantly diverse history of exhibitions.
“I’m keen to continue developing this exciting programme. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to build on the gallery’s reputation as a place of inspiration and pride for the town.”
Nial Adams, museums and archives manager, said:
“The Museums team is delighted to welcome Hannah to her new role as curator at Beverley Art Gallery.”
“I know that she will bring immense enthusiasm and great new ideas to the gallery, to help us build even further on its growing reputation as a centre for the work of the Elwell’s, and as the host of a wide range of exciting touring exhibitions.”
“I look forward to seeing Hannah’s programme for the gallery in 2023 and beyond.”
