Young residents in Beverley, East Yorkshire are being invited to take part in a photography competition.
For a chance to win a £50 one4all shopping voucher, the council’s planning design team is asking young people in the East Riding to send their favourite pictures of where they live.
Young people’s opinions about their neighbourhood are being collected in pictures so the council can learn what they like or dislike. Whether it’s where they walk their dogs or go with friends – the council’s planning design team wants to know.
As part of the ongoing work to create an East Riding Design Code, this will help the council plan for creating better public spaces in the future.
The East Riding Design Code
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is creating a design code for new developments in the area. In addition to the Local Plan policies, this code would serve as a guide for decision-making. It will also act as a tool for applicants to show what should be considered before submitting a planning application.
It is best for new developments to integrate well with the existing environment. Throughout our East Riding communities, they want to capture residents’ perspectives about what makes them great, and what works well and what doesn’t, so that new ideas can be maximized to improve the existing built environment.
In addition to the competition responses, other engagement activities are taking place to develop a draft code for public comment before a final code is adopted.
