Keighley enjoyed a productive afternoon in East Yorkshire as they beat Beverley 8-22 at Beaver Park.

Beverley were looking to bring an end to a run of defeats. Despite playing well in patches they were simply not good enough to overpower the side from West Yorkshire.

A number of supporters were at Beaver Park and created a good atmosphere on the day. However, there were to be no complaints from those watching or indeed playing about the result.

Beverley had their chance to arguably win the match during a period during the closing stages of the first half and opening stages of the second half.

Skipper Rob Smith converted a penalty in the first period of the game. While with just minutes to go in the game Luke Hazel got what would prove to be a consolation try.

However, the reality of the situation is that side lacked the heart and soul needed. If they are to get back on track and start turning matches like this into wins they will show more conviction and team spirit.

Joyful Afternoon For Keighley In Beverley

That is to take nothing away from Keighley. They arrived in East Yorkshire and looked very much like a united team.

They performed well as a unit and, as their record shows, were very good in defence. If they continue to play this way they will certainly be challenging at the top end of the table.

Adrian Calvert was named as Beverley’s man of the match, his performance encapsulated the ‘heart and soul’ that for most of the game was missing.

Defeat means that the Beavers have now lost their last four consecutive games. They also dropped down to seventh place in the table and remain on sixteen points.

Beverley will return to action next weekend when they hit the road to take on Leodiensian. They too lost at the weekend beaten by West Leeds.
