To help people keep warm and well this winter, Hull City Council Leader Mike Ross and key partners have launched a Winter Warmth Community Grants program.

Businesses in Hull are supporting the scheme, which is facilitated by Forum, a local umbrella organisation.

In order to help residents stay warm and healthy over the winter, the Council is inviting local organisations to apply for grants between £1000 and £10,000.

These kinds of projects might include providing warm clothing banks, holding activities in a Warm Space, or providing microwave ovens and slow cookers.

A donation from local businesses is funding the projects, which are expected to end in March 2023.

So far, the fund has received generous donations from Fortem of £50,000 and Efficiency North of £33,000. Fortem specialises in making homes more energy-efficient, helping organizations achieve zero-carbon status, and supports the city’s housing regeneration programme with extensive experience in decarbonisation.

As a leading provider of professional services for social housing procurement, employment and training, and land development, Efficiency North has worked with the council on a number of projects.

Cllr Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council said:

“We are launching the latest initiative in our battle to help people deal with the impact of the rising cost of living.”

“This is on top of our commitment to creating warm spaces, increasing funding for boiler refurbishments and extra help for food banks. It’s sad that such activity is needed in the 21st century, but the whole country is facing a national cost of living crisis and we are determined to do our part to help here in Hull.”

“I am very grateful for the strong support from local businesses, including Fortem and Efficiency North, and in particular their generous donations to help support local residents.  I hope that more donations will be forthcoming, and I would love to see more local organisations consider how they can get involved and apply to the scheme to deliver their projects.”

Winter Warmth Grants are administered by Forum, an umbrella organization for the voluntary sector in Hull. Applications are available on the Forum’s website northbankforum.org.uk/winter-warmth-community-grants/.
