In support of the Humber Museums Partnership, Hull Museums is delighted to announce a major investment from Arts Council England (ACE) of £3.3 million.

Through this funding, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, and North Lincolnshire museum services will continue to work together to offer the Humber region outstanding creative and cultural opportunities.

Hull City Council’s Culture and Leisure Lead, Councillor Rob Pritchard, said:

“I’m proud that once again we’re putting Hull on the map for all the right reasons. It’s wonderful news for Hull and all of East Yorkshire that we’ve secured this huge investment. Hull has so much to offer in terms of its heritage and culture. This funding will help ensure we can continue to grow our cultural offer so that people who live here can be proud of our city, and more visitors come to see what Hull has to offer.”

Manager of East Riding of Yorkshire Museums, Nial Adams said:

“East Riding Museums is delighted to receive the news of a further substantial investment by the Arts Council in the ongoing development of the HMP. This is now the fourth such ACE investment in a row in the HMP and is further vindication of the enormous benefits to be achieved by working with our colleagues Hull Museums and North Lincolnshire Museums in this great collaborative venture.”

Over the three-year investment period, the Arts Council received 1,730 applications with requests for just over £2 billion. As a result of this record-breaking number of applications, this investment round drew the most applicants to date.

By reducing the focus on London and investing in organizations that open up access to underserved communities, ACE pledged to support the government’s levelling up priorities.

Hull and the Humber region will benefit from this investment as community collaboration continues and heritage and culture are made more accessible. With this funding, jobs will be created and new opportunities for employment, work experience, training, and skills development will be opened up to a broader audience. The region will benefit from artist residencies and internships that focus on fostering local talent.

Also, the funding will bring free access to blockbuster exhibitions and events for local audiences, bringing world-class art and culture to the region. Additionally, it will help attract visitors from outside the region, contributing to our local economy and tourism ambitions.

Hull Museums will continue to offer free creative and cultural activities for children and families. In addition to providing inspirational creative opportunities and memorable experiences to disadvantaged pupils, they will provide young people with opportunities to develop skills and open doors into the creative industry.

Dedicated community-focused partnerships will help Hull Museums to improve access and uncover new stories as communities grow and change.

Humber Museums Partnership (HMP) is expanding its reach and impact thanks to an uplift in investment. In our region, museums and heritage are vital to regeneration, social development, and economic growth.
