Parking charges in Beverley and the rest of East Yorkshire will be suspended for four weeks before Christmas in all council-run car parks.
In an effort to boost trade and visitor numbers in towns across the East Riding, the council has offered free parking on four weekends leading up to Christmas for 14 years.
On Small Business Saturday, which is taking place on Saturday, 3 December, free parking will also be available.
Until Christmas Eve, the council will suspend its on-street and off-street parking charges on each weekend in December.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:
“Christmas is a very important time for local high streets and free parking will encourage people to come into our town centres and shop locally and help boost our economy.”
Pay and display machines will be clearly marked to let people know there will be no charge between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Monday.
Parking charges are suspended, but motorists are reminded that normal parking rules still apply, such as those around disabled parking bays, maximum stays, and controlled parking zones (CPZs).
Charges will be suspended on the following weekends:
Saturday, 3 December and Sunday, 4 December
Saturday, 10 December and Sunday, 11 December
Saturday, 17 December and Sunday, 18 December.
Saturday, 24 December (Christmas Eve).
