A ceremony to award the winners of the East Riding Festival of Words Poetry Competition 2022 will be held this week.
On Friday, 27 January, from 6pm to 8pm, North Bridlington Library will host an event celebrating the winning entries. It will be an opportunity to hear from the judges and listen to the winning entries at the Poetry Extravaganza. You can get tickets for this event for free right now.
In ‘My Wonderful World’, the writer could describe a pivotal moment in their lives, look ahead to their future, or reflect on the past.
Judges James Nash, Matthew Hedley Stoppard and Wendy Pratt will present prizes.
Poetry readings will also be given by well-known poets in the region, including Beverley-based Rosemary Palmeira, author of Blue Saxophone, and Adam Ditchburn, founder of Rad Rhymers.
Each entry had the opportunity to win one of three prizes: the Jubilee Prize of £500; the Gold Prize of £200; or the Silver Prize of £150.
East Riding Primary awards a First Prize of £75 and a Second Prize of £50 to young poets. There is a £75 First Prize and a £50 Second Prize for secondary school students.
Furthermore, six Highly Commended prizes of £25 each will be awarded, two to adults and two to children between the ages of primary and secondary school.
Winners are informed on the night of their prizes, only knowing they were successful enough to have been shortlisted. More entries were submitted nationwide than ever before, resulting in a very diverse shortlist this year.
