Residents in Beverley can continue to explore East Yorkshire and further afield until June for just £2 after the government announced an extension to cap single bus fares.
To implement a fare cap on over 130 operators outside London, the Government is investing up to £75 million as part of its ‘Help for Households Campaign’.
The scheme was launched on the 1 January and was due to expire at the end of March. However this has not been extended, news that has been welcomed by operators and the local MP.
News of the extension to the scheme was welcomed by Stuart Fillingham the Head of Commercial at bus operator East Yorkshire.
Commenting on the news he said:
“We’re glad to support the £2 fare cap, especially when the cost of living is such a relevant issue for many of our customers.”
“Travelling by bus is often the more inexpensive option, but with the introduction of this great-value fare cap, we’re looking forward to welcoming new and returning customers on board.”
MP Graham Stuart shared his views, he said:
“Everyone deserves to travel around Beverley and Holderness and the surrounding towns affordably, whether it be to get to the shops, doctors’ appointments or to visit friends and family.”
“It is great news that the Government is extending the £2 fare cap which will continue to make a great deal of difference to everyone who uses our buses.”
As a result of the fare cap, it means a journey from Beverley to Bridlington will remain at just £2 each way. Not only is this good for household budgets it is also a greener way to make the journey.
If you take this journey by bus instead of driving, you will save 6742g of CO2. It’s the equivalent of watching TV for 701 hours.
