An auction to raise money for Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church on Saturday 8 July will feature rare ancient artefacts from both buildings.
St Mary’s Church and Minster in Beverley is in danger of falling into disrepair, and the public is invited to donate their own prized possessions for auction.
Those wanting to discover the potential value of items they no longer need can attend the last public valuation event this Friday 23 June from 2-5pm at St Mary’s Church.
It is the latest initiative from the Two Churches One Town charity campaign to raise £ 20 million over ten years for the redevelopment and preservation of Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church.
The roofs, windows and stonework of these historic buildings need urgent attention to avoid having to close them for safety reasons.
Beverley Minster’s over 750-year-old pinnacles and St Mary’s antique pews are among the lots on offer, which have also been bolstered by items donated by the public.
A short documentary film about the challenge is available on the charity’s website: www.BeverleyTwoChurches.co.uk.
The catalogue is expected to include well over a hundred lots that are expected to draw international interest when it goes live online.
If members of the public cannot make Friday’s valuation session they can contact Hawley’s Auctioneers by telephone: 01482 868193 or email: info@hawleys.info
