Shoezone has moved into Beverley’s Flemingate centre, adding another major retailer to the bustling market town.

In addition to Dunelm, H&M, Sports Direct, The Entertainer, and Wilko, the footwear group has taken a long-term lease at Flemingate.

The Flemingate retail mix includes national brands in addition to popular independent stores like Guitar Galleries and Baytree Interiors.

Wykeland Group, which owns and operates Flemingate, has secured Shoezone to occupy a 4,500 sq ft space adjacent to H&M in the heart of the centre.

Wykeland Property Director said: “We’re delighted that another national retailer has chosen Flemingate for its latest opening.

“The arrival of Shoezone is another major vote of confidence in Flemingate and reflects the popularity of the centre among both local customers and visitors to the town.

“We now have one of Britain’s favourite footwear stores in our line-up, which complements the great mix of fashion, food, films, fun and so much more that Flemingate has to offer”.

Founded in 1980, Shoezone began as a family business when Michael Smith and Christopher Smith purchased controlling shares in Bensonshoe, their grandfather’s footwear company.

The company had 180 stores by 2000, and a year later they rebranded as Shoezone. There are currently around 330 Shoezone stores in the UK and more than 2,500 employees working for the company.

Over 14 million pairs of shoes are sold by the company every year, including Kickers, Skechers, Hush Puppies, Regatta and Crocs.

In addition to Shoezone’s complete core range of shoes, the Flemingate branch offers numerous other brands, including Lotus, Heavenly Feet, and Lunar.

Anthony Smith, Shoezone Chief Executive, said: “We’re delighted to be opening this new Shoezone store in Beverley.

“We’ll be selling our most popular core range of own-brand everyday footwear, alongside well-known branded shoes, making our entire retail collection more easily accessible.”

Flemingate’s Shoezone is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

As the latest addition to Flemingate, Shoezone joins Diner & Bar as one of East Yorkshire’s leading retail and leisure destinations.
