In an effort to support both urban and rural communities, six bus services are set to be improved as part of a new scheme.

A new evening service and weekend route extension will be funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to help local passengers and strengthen the network.

As of 5 November, the following services are already operating or will be operating:

  • New Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday services on the Goole Town Bus network,
  • New Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday services on service 747 between Pocklington, Full Sutton, and York,
  • A new Sunday 361 service between Goole and Scunthorpe, Friday, Saturday evening and Sunday 55 Services between Hull, Brough, Gilberdyke, and Goole,
  • An additional weekday service 143 between Withernsea and Beverley.
  • A new Saturday service between Allerthorpe, Melbourne, Aughton and York.

From September 2023 to September 2025, the council will receive funding from the government of £2.28 million to make the improvements.

Local authorities across the UK were awarded £160m by the Department for Transport as part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan Plus.

Bus services, fare initiatives, and enhancements can only be supported, enhanced, or started with the funding.

East Riding of Yorkshire Enhanced Bus Partnership has approved a programme of service enhancements to support local passengers and improve existing bus services.

There are a number of stakeholders involved in the bus partnership, including the council and local bus operators.

On Friday 13 October, Bishop Burton College, near Beverley, held an East Riding of Yorkshire Enhanced Bus Partnership Forum event in which the new services were announced.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Thanks to this Government funding and thanks to the work of the partnership, we’ve been able to support the bus network with these six new services.

“We really hope these new and more frequent bus services will be a big difference to local passengers.”

As part of the partnership, more changes are expected to be announced in January, such as the introduction of services in Bridlington and Beverley, and an enhancement to rural bus routes.
