Beverley Town Council has launched the Best of Beverley Awards, to celebrate the amazing support businesses and voluntary groups give to our local community.
The Mayor of Beverley Councillor Tom Astell said:
“One of the best things about Beverley is the feeling of community spirit. Many local businesses go above and beyond their main purpose and do a lot for Beverley and the wider community. This is why we’ve launched the Best of Beverley Awards – or The BoBs for short!”
“The aim is to celebrate the contributions businesses make to the local community that sometimes go unrecognised, such as putting on fund raising events for Beverley charities, donating materials to good causes, or going out of their way to check on the wellbeing of customers. These public-spirited acts can sometimes be forgotten, which is why Beverley Town Council wants to celebrate them.”
Cafes, pubs, hairdressers, shops, restaurants, accountants… any business can be nominated for The BoB Awards.
Businesses can nominate themselves via an application form on the Town Council website. Alternatively, members of the public can also send completed forms, if there is a business they want to nominate.
There is also another category, specifically for local voluntary groups and organisations.
The Mayor explained: “Beverley has lots of community groups that play an important role in the lives of residents. There are sports clubs, youth organisations, advice surgeries, activity sessions, friendship groups… the list goes on. For The BoB Awards, we want people to nominate groups that have specifically made a difference to their lives. We want YOUR stories so we can thank the groups that have made such a direct, positive difference to your lives.”
The Town Council has set up a webpage explaining more about the awards, including nomination forms that can downloaded for completion – www.beverley.gov.uk/bob. Alternatively, paper copies can be collected from the Town Council’s office at 12 Well Lane, Beverley, HU17 9BL.
The deadline for nominations is Sunday 21st April 2024. Nominations will be judged by the Mayor of Beverley, with winners invited to a special awards night at Parkway Cinema on Friday 10th May.
The Town Council hopes the Best of Beverley Awards will help to raise awareness of the good work done in our community and celebrate all that is great about our town.
