Tesco’s Beverley store has been working with ’s for over eight years to help fight hunger in our local area.

The store has a permanent collection point for customer donations which in the last three months alone has resulted in almost three thousand meals going to local people in need. Tesco also helps by making an annual contribution to Trussell Trust.

Additionally, the foodbank has won several thousand pounds in the Tesco Stronger Starts Community Grants programme in stores throughout East Yorkshire. Tesco also invites the Foodbank into its Beverley and Hornsea stores as part of the annual Tesco Winter Food Collection. On Saturday 27th July, the Foodbank held a further collection at Tesco Beverley which once again was a great success.

Mandy Thomlinson, Project Manager for the Foodbank, said: ‘‘The generosity of Tesco customers was amazing. We are very grateful to have been given 21 crates worth of food and £149 which will make a huge difference to many local families in crisis. Unfortunately our stocks are incredibly low and the community support of Tesco to put on these collections is invaluable.’’

Dave Ryley, Tesco Beverley’s Community Champion, added: ‘‘East Yorkshire Foodbank does a fantastic job in helping to reduce food poverty in Beverley and East Yorkshire and we are pleased to have been able to help them.’’
