East Yorkshire Buses is proud to announce that in honour of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, free travel will be available all day for veterans and currently serving members of the UK Armed Forces. This initiative, taking place on Sunday, 10 November and Monday, 11 November, reflects the company’s commitment to supporting and showing gratitude to those who have dedicated themselves to the country.
Veterans and serving personnel are invited to travel without charge on both days by simply showing their military ID or wearing their medals when boarding. East Yorkshire Buses hopes this gesture allows Armed Forces members to attend remembrance events, reconnect with family, and gather with friends.
“As a company rooted in the communities we serve, we are proud to offer this gesture of respect and support to our Armed Forces,” said Stuart Fillingham, Commercial Director of East Yorkshire Buses. “They have given so much to serve our country, and we want them to feel valued and appreciated. This reflects our gratitude for their sacrifice and our commitment to ensuring they feel connected to their communities. It’s an honour to stand with them in remembrance and respect.”
As a mark of respect, drivers are encouraged to observe a two-minute silence at 11:00 am on both days, pulling over safely where possible. Passengers are invited to join the silence, creating a moment of collective reflection across East Yorkshire. Some of our colleagues who are veterans will proudly wear their military medals or regimental polo shirts on these days. This honours their service and visibly represents the support we extend to the Armed Forces community as a company.
In addition to free travel and the two-minute silence, several East Yorkshire buses have been updated to display “Lest We Forget” messages on electronic destination screens. This tribute is a visible reminder of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces and is intended to inspire respect and reflection among the community.
