East Riding of Yorkshire Council has completed a new affordable housing project on Burden Road in Beverley.
The development provides four new council houses, two two-bed houses and two three-bed houses, and were built using locally based contractors such as Geo. Houlton & Son.
Work started in April 2024, funded by the council’s housing revenue account in addition to £0.368m grant received from Homes England, the government body which supports the new supply of affordable housing.
The homes have been designed to a high standard, to meet the needs of the local community, including new energy efficient measures. The properties are fitted with roof-mounted solar panels, and air-source heat pumps, while the council will monitor energy usage and cost savings for tenants.
New tenants are scheduled to move in shortly, and the council houses will be allocated through the council’s housing allocations policy.
Councillor Gary McMaster, East Riding of Yorkshire council cabinet member for planning, housing and infrastructure said “This is a fantastic development and it’s great to see this project completed, after substantial investment from East Riding council.
The use of renewable energy technologies will pay a key role in supporting tenants, and the council will monitor this project as a pilot for future schemes.”
