A new full size 3G pitch is to be installed at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice thanks to commuted sums. More than £360,000 has been awarded towards the installation.
The total project cost for the new pitch exceeds £2m. This ambitious project is set to benefit the local community by providing a state-of-the-art facility for football enthusiasts.
Three football clubs in the nearby locality have partnered with the council and will be the primary users of the new facility. The Local Football Facilities Plan identified a shortfall of 3G Football Turf Pitches (FTPs) in the Haltemprice area, driven by the high demand from local affiliated clubs.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council are leading the project, which includes the construction of a full-size floodlit 3G Football Turf Pitch, additional car parking, and a changing facility at East Riding Leisure Haltemprice.
The site is already well-used by both affiliated and recreational football, and the new pitch will further support increased participation, including a new offer for disability football. This initiative aims to kick-start activity in this area of the game and address the shortfall of grass pitches in the region. 3G pitches are resilient to wet weather, ensuring play can continue without disruption.
Tim Hicks, health and wellbeing facilities manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: “The investment from commuted sums will provide a reliable playing surface, ensuring year-round access to the sports facility. This will enhance the quality of local sport and promote physical activity, community engagement and overall well-being.”
Councillor Gary McMaster, the council’s cabinet member for planning, housing and infrastructure said: “Once again commuted sums has helped to support local projects and benefit the community around them. It is great to know that this installation will support so many people with their health and well-being and will be an asset to East Riding Leisure Haltemprice.”
