Goole woman prosecuted after being caught on CCTV dumping waste in back alley

A woman from Goole has been prosecuted for dumping waste in a back alley in the town after she was caught in the act on CCTV.

Yvette Marston, of Byron Street, Goole, left books, plant pots, a paint tin, some metal and wood, and black bin bags containing a carpet and household waste in a pile next to a rubbish bin in the access road between Milton Street and Byron Street, Goole.

Marston did not attend Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 5 March to answer a charge of abandoning waste, but the case was proved in her absence.

She was fined £220 and ordered to pay £379.22 costs and an £88 victim surcharge.

The court heard CCTV captured footage of a woman dumping waste in the back alley between Milton Street and Byron Street, Goole, on 11 June last year.

Streetscene enforcement officers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council investigated the abandoned waste and found it belonged to Marston.

She was twice invited for an interview with the officers but she failed to make contact, so the case was sent to court.

Residents are responsible for disposing of their own waste properly and legally by using household wheelie bins provided or by taking larger items of waste to their local household waste recycling site.

Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Fly-tipping and abandoning waste is never acceptable, and we will use the tools we have, including CCTV cameras, to catch the people responsible.”
