Shortly before kick off against East Yorkshire Carnegie, Beverley Town Football Club unveiled Nathan White as their new Club Captain for the forthcoming season.
Manager Rich Jagger said;
“Nathan has been fantastic in pre season. He hasn’t missed a game, been to nearly every training session and set a fantastic example to the clubs younger players, I’m sure he will do a cracking job.”
Town started brightly, passing the ball crisply and taking an early grip of the game. Adam Foster up front linked well with Matty Littlefield and created some good early chances. Carnegie also played their part, with some pinpoint diagonal balls causing problems for the town defence.
It was Town however that took the lead when Adam foster fired a free kick from the edge of the 18 yard box towards goal, which took a deflection off the wall and finished up in the bottom corner of the Carnegie goal.
Town were lucky to remain 1-0 up when ex player Michael O’Connell fired a great free kick against the post after 40 minutes.
The second half carried on in the same vein, Carnegie having grown into the game were causing a few problems for town, particularly with 2 pacy wingers attacking down both flanks.
After 70 minutes Carnegie were level after a poor clearance from Towns keeper. The ball came straight back, and with town out of position the equaliser nestled into the bottom corner of the goal.
The game was now getting stretched as both teams became tired. Town had the opportunity to take the lead again after Adam Foster was brought down in the penalty box. James Smith stepped up to take the penalty but the keeper made a fine save and an even better save from the rebound .
The match continued end to end for the last 10 minutes until the final whistle went and both teams were pleased to end up with a 1-1 draw.
Town manager Jagger was pleased with the work out, saying;
“It was a good , competitive game. Both sides went for it and it was a good game to finish the pre season campaign.”
“The lads are absolutely raring to go and can’t wait for season to begin with the Hedon game this Saturday.”
