Ten thousand pounds of Government funding will see a Coastal Community Team (CCT) established in Hornsea, it will be announced today by Coastal Communities Minister Andrew Percy MP.
Mr Percy will confirm the funding during a visit to the East Riding resort’s inshore rescue centre.
CCTs are made up of local volunteers, councils and local businesses and are initially allocated £10,000 each to develop a blueprint for economic growth as well as receiving support from a network geared towards regenerating the country’s much-loved seaside areas.
The East Riding has already established CCTs in Bridlington, Withernsea and Goole, with those teams already helping to deliver on the regeneration ambitions of those towns.
The Hornsea CCT will draw on a broad range of expertise to help develop a realistic and deliverable plan to improve the offer of Hornsea’s seafront by incorporating sport, play and artistic activities along the promenade and on adjacent green spaces. The CCT will also develop funding plans for infrastructure investments and pilot new events for both residents and visitors.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:
“The council welcome today’s announcement by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
“The bid for Hornsea focused on building on our master plan for the town and further investing in the seafront in terms of both its infrastructure and events.
“Our CCTs in Bridlington, Withernsea and Goole are already achieving great things, from setting up a local careers portal to creating new events and I’m sure the team in Hornsea can help make a real difference to the town.”
Councillor Barbara Jefferson, chairman of the Hornsea Area Regeneration Partnership (HARP), said:
“HARP is delighted by the news that Hornsea has been successful in its bid to establish a CCT and is pleased that the minister chose the town as the location to make this national announcement.
“The CCT will help develop and deliver key parts of the town’s regeneration efforts and the HARP Board looks forward to working with its volunteers, local businesses and council representatives.
“Hornsea is one of the Holderness Coast’s most vibrant towns and is a great place for residents to live in and for come and see. The CCT will help deliver on the priorities of local people as well as develop the tourism offer.”
