Road Safety Evening in Beverley

A road safety evening will give young people the chance to wear beer goggles in the driving seat of a car and see fire officers recover a simulated casualty.

The event at Beverley Fire Station, on Thursday 15 April, from 6.30pm to 9pm aims to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of being a driver, passenger and cyclist for people aged between 13 and 20.

A hard-hitting presentation from fire and rescue, police and road safety officers will be supported by the Take One Moment Foundation.

Jackie Brewis, youth service manager said;

“A similar event in Market Weighton was very successful. We are happy to put young people in touch with organisations that can inform them about their choices when it comes to road safety, including keeping safe on cycles, who to accept lifts from and even their own driving.”

The event will also feature cycle safety checks, cycle coding and a free barbeque.

The Mayor of Beverley David Elvidge will present prizes, including a £100 driving lesson voucher to the winner of a free prize draw for all attendees over 16.

Youth Workers from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Beverley Town Council are working with a range of other services and organisations to deliver the road safety evening.

Organisations supporting the event include Tesco, CSV East Riding Volunteers, East Riding road safety officers, Police and PCSOs and the safer community team.
