Yesterday evening what I set out to cover never materialised though I did meet a local man called Paddy Sweeney on Toll Gavel. Paddy is a retired vet and has great dog called Charlie. He has been in Beverley for a around 3 years now and said his dog gets a lot of attention. He asked if I would put the pictures on the web site for him.

Nice to see Paddy and Charlie on HU17, not often you see him without his cap on (Paddy that is not Charlie). The Sweeney’s are nice people and always ready for a chat and a laugh.
This guy is a living legend in the greyhound world, his respect from trainers is on a level i have never seen before,he even bred two derby winners and even treated my open racer in the late 80s.his articles are ofter in the racing post!! great work paul…
These are great photographs of Paddy and Charlie but where’s Paddy’s bag? Whenever I see him walking around Beverley he has a big plastic shopping bag advertising appropriately enough Paddy Irish whiskey. That bag is a big help to anyone not sure if they are looking at the real thing, or an impersonator!
The best GRANDFATHER in the world and the 2nd best dog after Binker (Charlie’s Sister)!!! Completely made my Birthday Paddy. 🙂 Thank you. WE Love you. xxxxxx
He told me about Binker, I guess it is your dad who is the photographer….
PADDY YOU ARE THE BEST!! I love this! you and Charlie look great! see you soon! xxxxxxx
A legend indeed. His son, the photographer Warwick Sweeney, is similarly renowned in south London!!!!
Paddy, you look very cool!! But where are your green trousers? Yes indeed you are legend!! Keep fit and well and hope to go racing with you again soon!
Any chance of an autographed copy?

They do not make them like this any longer……more’s the pity.

I love you Paddy Daddy! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Mr Follon,Daniels dolly i do belive..i remember the greyhound very well.
I came across this article and thrilled that I did. I remember Paddy and family when they lived in Rugby in the 1970’s. My Dad, Noel (then Manager of Coventry City F.C.) and Paddy were great friends. I have very happy childhood memories of times with the Sweeney’s.
good luck to Paddy and Jane and all their family …. great bunch of people …. always up for a laugh or a hill walk …… best of luck for now from Donegal
Met paddy and his wife and of course Charley by the roaring fire in the rose and crown pub. Top man, with wonderful stories and tales. Ace to talk to.
