Beverley RUFC formidable home form remains in place after they saw off Old Rishworthians winning 31-25 at Beaver Park.
Beverley who are still in with a shout of promotion needed to dig deep against a side who physically were far bigger than them but did just that to secure the result.
Victory means the Beavers who remain fourth in the Yorkshire League Division One are just three points behind second placed Scarborough.
Ahead of the game players from both clubs paused to remember Graham Hodgson who sadly passed away earlier in the week.
Malcolm Cunning from Beverley RUFC said;
“Graham was a stalwart of the Beverley club for over 50 years, serving as player, captain, coach and Director of Rugby, steering it through the leagues from Yorkshire 2 up to the National Leagues and he will be sadly missed. The club’s commiserations go out to Graham’s family at this time.”
On the field Beverley went ahead though by the break Old Rishworthians had got their noses in front with score at 10-13 to the visitors.
For the second time this season the Beavers had to dig deep and come from behind to beat Old Rishworthians, something they done as they despite a late surge by the visitors.
After the match gaffer Will Turnbull was a man of few words he said;
“It was a tough game as we expected. Our attacking structures were pretty sharp in parts, but defensively we were really slack.”
Next weekend Beverley will make the short trip to Hull for the derby against the only side to beat them at Beaver Park this season, Hullensians.
Turnbull and his side should go into the match confident of getting a result as they look to keep pressure on the sides around and stay in the hunt for a promotion place.
Final Score: Beverley RUFC 31 Old Rishworthians 25
