Town Progress To Semi Final After They Beat Cave On Penalties

Beverley Town Football Club’s Reserves have made through to the semi final of the League senior cup after a penalty shoot out win over North Cave.

Ed Grady’s side started the game brightly taking the lead after two minutes through top goal scorer Rob Northen after some  route one stuff saw the striker finish with ease.

The lead was short lived as Cave hit back 5 minutes later catching town on the counter. For the next 20 minutes the game was played at a frantic pace as both teams tried to get hold of the game.

Town eventually settled into their stride and took the lead through Northen who put the home side ahead with a cracking half volley.

Grady’s half time team talk at the break went out the window just 2 minutes into the second half as Cave hit back from a direct free kick edge of the area.

Once again town stepped up and took the lead this time from part time boxing promoter Adam ‘Hearn’ Foster, who tapped home after good work from Joe Thompson and Northen.

Cave yet again hit back quickly after a mix up in the Town defence between Matty Dixon and Mike Morris allowed for a third equaliser for Cave making the score 3-3.

Extra time followed and both teams had chances to win the game but went begging, meaning the match would be decided by a penalty shoot out.

Town’s keeper,  Morris stepped up to the mark as he  saved 3 of the 4 penalties and whiles Town’s Ben Richardson, Phil Gardner and Louis Stockman all scored to seal victory.

Man of the match was given to Ben Richardson for his fantastic efforts in defence.  Phil Gardner also showed there is ‘still life in the old dog yet’  after a performance that saw him  boss the midfield.

Town face St George in the Semi final Tuesday 17 April.
