Local Man On Fundraising Mission Praises Pittaway Beverley 10K

A man on a fundraising mission, Greg Usher (437) has praised the Pittaway Beverley 10K and the B&A Scaffolding Fun Run saying organisers did a fantastic job.

Greg, who was taking part in his seventh Beverley 10K is raising money to fund a stand at the Norwood Recreation Ground in memory of his late father, Ivan Usher.

Speaking about the event Greg said;  

“I thought Andy Tate and the Beverley Athletic Club did a fantastic job organising the event again. We had around 40 friends and family running as part of Ivans Kangaroo Club and over 30 volunteers, all of whom said how brilliant it was.”

“It is a great route that takes you through our iconic town. The B&A Scaffolding fun-run was also superbly organised. It was so nice to see the children and their families enjoying themselves. Mum was delighted to hand out the awards with the Archbishop.”

“Following the race the runners and supporters along with hundreds of Beverlonians met up for food and drinks at Armstrongs Social Club.”

Gregg says his father used to watch the race and support him. On his way to setting a new personal best on Sunday of 43m 5s – Gregg said he could hear his father’s voice as he climbed the Newbald Road Hill.

Thanks to Gregg and his friends efforts they managed to raise £1000 by participating in the Beverley 10K and fund raising at the event, all of  which will go towards their goal of funding the memorial stand.

Commenting on their progress of making the Ivan Usher Memorial Stand a reality Gregg said;

“We need 18000 to complete the memorial stand project. We have raised about £5000  through fundraising.  Rodger Wellburn, who was taught by Dad, and the trustees at the Catholic Club have agreed to match the £3000 target on the Justgiving page. “

“Beverley Town Football Club will make a contribution and we are speaking with Cllr Dennis Healy and the council about obtaining commuted sums – all of whom have been extremely supportive. It is all starting to come together.”

“We need to confirm planning permission for the stand at Norwood. Once this has been agreed, we are hoping to have the stand erected for the upcoming season.”

“It maybe a little ambitious but we are hopeful.”
