The weather took its toll last Saturday as both the Beverley Town Cricket Club 1st and 2nd XI matches were abandoned due to heavy rain.
Beverley’s 3rds lost again but the 4ths cantered to victory before the rain came and the 5ths did the same on Sunday.
York Senior League
Premier Division
Beverley 1st XI 15 for 0, Pickering 171 all out, match abandoned
Matt Mudd and Jamie Roe both took three wickets as home side Pickering elected to bat first and made 171 all out in 41 overs. Tom Haytack (2-34) and Brad Graham (1-15) were also among the wickets. Roe (3-32) continued with his miserly economy rate while Mudd (3-51) claimed the top three batsmen.
Town had progressed to 15 without loss when the match was abandoned due to rain.
Division 1
Beverley 2nd XI 181 for 9, Dringhouses 81 for 3, match abandoned
A superb opening stand of 93 between Will Parker (90) and Tony Spence (44) set Town 2nds up for a big total at home to Dringhouses. Things soon changed when seven wickets fell for thirty runs and Town were eventually grateful for some sensible late order batting that took them to 181 for 9.
Dringhouses were presented with a good start by some wayward bowling by Town. Two wickets for James Emery (2-21) and one for Connor Bowden (1-26) helped the Beverley cause but Dringhouses had reached 81 for 3 without further alarm when rain stopped play in the sixteenth over.
Holderness Division 2
Beverley 3rd XI 51 all out lost to HICE 1st XI 190 for 9 by 139 runs
Another poor batting performance saw the 3rds slump to their fourth defeat of the season. The home side made 190 for 9, a good score on a ground with a long outfield, youngster Ed Chappell claiming his best senior haul for the club, a very creditable 6 for 40.
Opener Tim Smith made 12 and Kieran O’Brian defied the home bowling for a while with 23 in Town’s 51 all out. The next highest score was two and there were five ducks in a disappointing display by a team now sat in eighth place in Holderness Division 2.
Holderness Division 4
Beverley 4th XI 105 for 1 beat HICE 2nd XI 104 for 9 by 9 wickets
An unbroken tenth wicket partnership of 35 helped HICE to 104 for 9 at Norwood. Lewis Richardson (4-12) was the pick of the Town attack and Matty Saint (2-21) and Jacob Hunter (2-6) both put in good spells. Charlie Bough (1-28) took the remaining wicket.
With the rain on its way openers Kevin Thompson and Graeme Taylor wasted no time in reducing the deficit. Taylor went for 42 with the score on 89 and Town eased home in the seventeenth over with Thompson unbeaten on 52. Town remain fourteen points clear at the top of the table and play second place Hull Strikers this weekend.
Holderness Sunday Conference
Beverley 5th XI 99 for 6 beat Hessle 3rd XI 96 all out by 4 wickets
Matt Bloomfield’s 3 for 19 helped Town bowl Hessle 3rd XI out for 96 at Hessle. Jonathan Sowter took 2 for 4 and four bowlers took a wicket apiece, along with a run out, to keep the home side to a manageable total.
The teams went straight back out and Town soon lost a wicket but Tom Patey (40) took his side to within sight of their target. After a flurry of wickets it was left to captain Rich Simpson (19 no) to guide Town home in the rain for another thirty points. The 5ths have a narrow lead at the top of the table but more importantly the Under 15 players in the side are gaining valuable experience each week.
