Small Business Saturday UK takes place this weekend and is an ideal time for communities to get behind their high streets.
Held on the first Saturday in December, Small Business Saturday shines a spotlight on small businesses in our town.
Be it a shop, cafe, pub or hairdressers, Small Business Saturday is there to encourage us all to shop locally. Nationally there are 5.7 Million small businesses, and Beverley has its fair share of them to choose from.
Local trader Emily Rea says the Small Business Saturday is a fantastic incentive. She adds it is also a good way for independent shops to promote themselves.
She opened Emily Rea Jewellery & Gifts in October, speaking to HU17.net she said;
“People who visit Beverley come here because we have quite a few independent shops. While we are busy this time of year, Small Business Saturday gives shoppers a reminder to shop locally.”
“Since opening, business has been good, but you there is always scope to improve things. I would like to urge everyone who is out shopping to support their local traders.”
“Unlike major chains as a small business, the items stocked are constantly evolving to keep up the latest’s trends. Currently, Silver and Amber handmade Jewellery is proving really popular as a gift for Christmas. This is so popular with also have gents collection.”
Small Business Saturday Key To Highlighting Our Local Traders
Her views are echoed by other local traders like independent record shop owner Neil Harris.
Neil is another one of Beverley’s success stories he runs Bug Vinyl Records, commenting on the day he said;
“Small Business Saturday is a huge day in the shopping calendar for all the small shops in Beverley especially this year as it coincides with payday. The small shops that have recently opened throughout the lanes of Beverley are the heartbeat of this historical town.”
“Incentives like this are hugely important as they act as a reminder to people to use their local shops.”
