Heroes Welcome Beverley

forces welcomeFormer Beverley Mayor David Elvidge is urging the town’s businesses to show their support for the area’s armed forces.

During his year in office, David has continually shown his commitment to the country’s servicemen and women, and was the driving force behind the Memorial Fund, which has seen a memorial commemorating the town’s fallen war heroes installed in Hengate Gardens.

And he has used his last days in office to initiate the Heroes Welcome campaign for businesses in Beverley.

Councillor Elvidge is asking businesses to display the logo – Heroes Welcome In Beverley – to emphasise the forces-friendly nature of the town.

Businesses displaying the logo may offer a discount to members of the armed forces, or special offers, but at the very least a warm welcome for those putting their lives on the line.

The scheme will be officially launched at Beverley  Armed Forces day on Sunday 4 July, when hundreds of members of the armed forces march through the town. Last year, Beverley showed its gratitude with a huge turnout of folk keen to show their support for our servicemen and women.

Councillor Elvidge said:

“I am proud to be a part of the team that will bring a “Heroes Welcome” to Beverley a chance for us all to give some recognition to the men and women of our Armed Forces.”

To get involved ahead of the launch, visit www.beverley.gov.uk to download a PDF of the application form, or contact Beverley Town Council on 874096.
