East Riding secondary schools are again celebrating their success in the GCSE league tables. The news comes are the new tables were issued by the Department for Education.

Results show that 46.30pc of students studying in East Yorkshire Schools achieved grade 5 or above in English and Maths.

In Beverley, there were much better results for some of the schools when it came to English and Maths.

Beverley High School and Beverley Grammar School saw 63pc of students achieve GCSE Results of grade 5 or above. While at Longcroft School just 36pc of students achieved grade 5 or above.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council welcomed the news. They also say the achievement is all the much better given the lack of funding from government schools are getting.

In a statement released they said;

 “We are delighted with the progress that many East Riding schools have brought about this year.”

“This is down to the hard work of young people and their families, supported by dedicated school staff.”

“East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to improving East Riding schools until we have some of the best in the country.” 

“The results have been achieved against a backdrop of the continued very low level of funding for East Riding schools from the Department for Education.”

East Riding schools are ranked fourth in the Yorkshire and Humber region for Progress 8. This is the main measure by which schools are now judged.

This measure judges schools by the average progress made by students from their starting point at secondary school to the end of year 11, in eight GCSE subjects.

Beverley High School was rated well above average while the Beverley Grammar School was rated above average. Longcroft School, however, was just below the national average.

GCSE Results Are A Testament To Hard Work Of Young People

Jamie O’Brien, the council’s principal improvement adviser, said; 

“These results are a testament to the hard work of our young people, as well as the dedication and commitment of teachers and support staff in all our schools.”

“ We are proud of the accomplishments of young people throughout the East Riding achieved with the support of their carers and families.”

“We greatly appreciate the hard work of head teachers, teaching and support staff that have contributed to these impressive results.”
