Travel and tourism and business students at Bishop Burton College will be broadening their horizons on a trip to work in Spain.
Students in the second year of their Level 3 courses in travel and tourism and business will be given the chance to gain crucial experience of working in another country in the two-week trip to Seville at the end of March 2020.
The trip for 20 students in total has been made possible after the college successfully applied for funding through Erasmus+, a European Union student exchange programme.
The Bishop Burton cohort will have placements in hotel and hostel receptions, running cycling and walking tours and work in marketing and sales at visitor attractions.
The students will receive a daily allowance during their time in the Spanish city and the trip will show them the breadth of opportunities available to them.
Natalie Lyons, Travel and Tourism course manager, said: “It will be an incredible experience for them because they will be working in the industry. It will give them a whole new experience away from this country and really broaden their horizons.
“Some people, when they think of studying travel and tourism, can’t seeing anything beyond being a travel agent but this will show just how far you can go and the different areas you can focus on in other countries.”
Bishop Burton, near Beverley, is committed to providing life-changing experiences for its students, which can help them decide on their future career choice.
Level 3 animal management students spent their summer on a trip to South Africa, where they worked on a game reserve.
The college specialises in agriculture, animal management, equine and sport but also runs a wide variety of courses in other subjects, including fashion, art and design, floristry and public services.
