Spring has well and truly sprung. And with spring comes the annual spring clean.

But this year’s commercial spring clean will need to go a little deeper, with thousands of places of work left dormant over lockdown meaning that workspaces are all now overdue some much-needed care and attention.

It’s a daunting prospect, but here to help is commercial director at cleaning, painting and facilities management firm Lightowler Vicky Roberts, who shares some top tips on how to tackle some of the biggest office-based facilities management tasks ahead of reopening.

Paint

Peeling and faded paint is unsightly but it can also be indicative of a bigger problem – such as damp or faulty guttering – so it’s worth evaluating and fixing. Exterior paintwork can need refreshing every couple of years depending on the location of your building. We have an expert painting operations manager, who offers bespoke advice for our clients.

Gutters

Many of our client’s experience blocked gutters. It’s a common problem and can cause huge issues – from structural and foundation damage to mould – if they’re not properly addressed, so we recommend checking their status every year.

Windows

Dirty windows are not the ‘welcome back’ message you want to give to your staff or customers. So we recommend getting them cleaned by professional vision technicians.

Air conditioning units

Workspace air quality is now more important than ever and air conditioning vents or units have a huge role to play. As air conditioning units are turned on in the next few weeks, healthy air quality will become essential. Our electrostatic sanitisation service sprays an electrostatically charged mist to sanitise every nook and cranny of the vents.

Gardens and outdoor space

It’s not just inside spaces that will need a little bit of extra care and attention this spring. Outside spaces, courtyards, entranceways, car parks and gardens need regular maintenance – but don’t worry if you haven’t checked on your plants, cut your grass, or pulled up any weeds for a while. We’ve overhauled even the most overgrown outdoor areas and our fantastic facilities management team will bring your space back to life.
