A local housebuilder has donated £1,000 as part of its Community Fund initiative to the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Unit, a dedicated care facility at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.
The chosen cause, Teenage Cancer Trust, is a world-class cancer service for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone, and has developed a specialist Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Unit based within the Queen’s Centre at Castle Hill Hospital, close to the housebuilder’s Poppy Fields development.
The donation follows the nomination of the charity by Jamie Stephenson, Assistant Site Manager at Poppy Fields, and Site Labourer, Richard Bowser. Jamie’s partner has been supported by the unit, as well as a further personal connection to the charity through Richard Bowser, a site labourer whose sister was supported by the charity before sadly passing away.
With the help of the donation from Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Community Fund – an initiative which aims to support the communities in which the housebuilder operates with a different chosen charity each month – further support will be offered to the Young Adults Cancer team to make a difference to the patients cared for by running engaging activities in a safe and supportive community, helping to build relationships with other young people that have had a similar experience.
Jamie Stephenson, Assistant Site Manager at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East commented:
“The Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Unit at Castle Hill Hospital does a truly fantastic job in offering its support to those in need in the local communities and it was an honour to be able to nominate them for our Community Fund donation, it’s very much deserved.”
“We hope that our donation will help to raise awareness of the vital work that the charity does and help them to continue supporting young people and their families going through such difficult times.”
Charlene Kent at Teenage Cancer Trust and Castle Hill Hospital said:
“We are incredibly grateful to Barratt Developments Yorkshire East for this donation. The funds will help us to run events for our patients in a safe and supportive environment, as well as continuing to offer the best possible care.”
