It was a historic night in East Yorkshire on Tuesday as Beverley Town Football Club recorded their first home since joining the Northern Counties League.
Beverley produced the result of their season thus far as they hammered Glasshoughton Welfare 5-1 under the lights at Norwood.
The win was witnessed by 301 supporters who despite Beverley’s patchy home form have stuck with the side.
Ahead of the game Beverley’s manager Dave Ricardo had called for his team to be more clinical in the final third. It would be fair to say his team did just that.
Olly Baldwin (2), Reece Moody (2) and Lewis Gibson all found the back of the net in an emphatic win for the home side.
This was a much-needed and big win for Beverley. It came just 72 hours after they were held at home by Retford. The result sees them climb three places in the league to ninth place.
For those watching there was finally something to cheer about with supporters leaving the ground with a spring in their step.
Historic Night Looked Unlikely After First Fifteen Minutes
Beverley however did not have it all their own way. During the opening exchanges, it was Glasshoughton Welfare who started the stronger of the two teams.
The nerves were settled though when Baldwin opened the scoring midway through the first half. That goal seemed to spark Beverley into life and they soon doubled their lead from the spot.
Baldwin then all but ended the contest by scoring a spectacular goal just before the break. Town added two more goals in the second period with the visitors pulling one back from the spot.
While the score was a big one this was not by any means the best Town has played at home. The performance was good but more functional than fluid. Most of their play came through the middle of the park.
Needless to say, the most important object of the night was achieved, that was a win and three points.
Next up for Beverley is an away day at Brigg Town in eight days. With just one point between the teams, it will be another chance for Beverley to climb the table.
