The Yorkshire Wolds Way is celebrating its 40th anniversary as one of Britain’s most popular national trails.
On Sunday, 2 October 2022, National Trails, the Ramblers Association and East Riding of Yorkshire Council will lead a mass walking adventure to commemorate this landmark event.
In an effort to walk the entire 79 miles between the Humber Bridge and Filey Brigg in one day, the trail will be divided into seven equal sections. Residents and visitors are invited to walk one leg of each section.
Approximately 11 miles of the national trail will be covered by each section, which will be led by experienced walk leaders.
England’s National Trail winds through some of the most tranquil and gentle countryside. Taking in the banks of the mighty Humber estuary, wooded slopes, and serene dry valleys, the walk climbs gently into the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds before descending along the dramatic headland of Filey Brigg.
All those who walk one of the seven stages will help to complete all 79 miles on one day.
Ascents and descents will be steep and the terrain will be rough. It is necessary to have a good level of fitness to complete the entire trail.
Reservations are required for this walk, which has a limit of 30 participants. In order to cover coach transportation, a fee of £5 will be charged per person. (Payable upon booking).
A spokesperson for National Trails, Malcolm Hodgson said:
“For 40 years, thousands of walkers have discovered the delights of the outstanding and tranquil landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds. Now is an opportunity to follow in their footsteps and celebrate our wonderful National Trail.”
“What’s more, there will be a slice of cake for every participant as we say Happy Birthday and toast the next 40 years.”
