Immerse Yourself In The Magic Of Christmas And Escape Into Midwinter

It has become a tradition for many to attend Richard Durrant’s candlelit Christmas concerts every year. Including those held in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Especially among those who prefer a less commercial, more acoustic atmosphere to their midwinter, this feast of folk and early music, carols and originals seem to strike just the right note.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Music in 1986, Richard has performed tirelessly. In addition to performing about 70 concerts a year at home and abroad, he writes, arranges, and discovers much new guitar repertoire. It has been his life’s work to perform, compose, promote music literacy, and break down musical barriers.

Tickets are selling fast for this year’s event in Beverley which will be held at Toll Gavel Church on Thursday 8 December.

Four outstanding musicians will join Richard again this year. Brian Gulland, the legendary, “mediaeval prog-rock God” and Canterbury choirboy, will sing as well as play bassoons, recorders, crumhorns and keyboards. Django & Felix, now on their second Christmas tour, add percussion, bass, keyboards, and two more voices to the mix.

On her tenth candlelit tour, Richard is joined by the wonderful Amy Kakoura. Having the opportunity to work with her makes Richard as proud as ever:

“Amy is beyond compare – her singing evokes the magic and intensity of the solstice and her voice brings warmth and meaning to each Christmas.”

A number of new songs have been written this year to add to the mix of classics and originals. There will also be XTC’s Love on a Farmboy’s Wages, Richard’s Haw Frost Song, Ice Garden, Kenneth the Hedge, and original songs by Django, Felix, and Amy.

It’s a joyous, joyful, and musical show that brings people together at a magical time of year. Join Richard and friends to celebrate the midwinter and escape into the holiday season this December in Beverley.
