Beverley Rotary Club members enjoyed a presentation at Fergusson Fawsitt by two 16-year-olds, Grace Stubbings of Helperthorpe and Marillious Kelly of Winestead, who recently attended a Rotary Youth Leadership Award course.

For young people aged 16 and 17, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a six-day residential course designed to develop teamwork and leadership skills.

During the summer, the six-day courses are held at Hebden Hey Scout Hostel in West Yorkshire. Families are not charged a cent for participating in this event because their local Rotary Club sponsors them.

From their excellent presentation, it was clear that both Grace and Marillious had benefited greatly from the course, which should serve them well in their future careers – Grace is a sixth-form student and wishes to study politics in the future, while Marillious is already a Yorkshire Boxing champion and training at St Paul’s Boxing Academy, Hull.

Following in the footsteps of Luke Campbell, who was also coached at St Paul’s, he has set his sights on Olympic gold at the 2024 or 2028 Games.

Applicants for next year’s courses are now being accepted, so if you would like to apply or nominate a candidate, please visit www.beverleyrotaryclub.org.uk.
