Beverley Westwood was filled with excitement and energy as approximately 200 runners of all ages participated in the highly anticipated Beverley Fun Run.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted public gatherings on Westwood, this was the first event on the street since then. A resounding success, the Fun Run was organized by the Beverley Braves and aimed at promoting teamwork, respect, and good physical and mental health.

The first runner to cross the finish line was Caleb Newlove, representing the Beverley Athletics Club. Second place went to James Jeffery of Beverley Braves U13’s, and third place went to Isaac Eldret of Beverley Braves U14’s. Participants ranged in age from 4 to 74 years old, illustrating the event’s inclusivity and accessibility. As part of their efforts, participants received fruit from Tesco supermarket as a source of refreshment.

In addition to bringing together local athletes, the Beverley Fun Run also attracted notable rugby personalities. Lachlan Coote, NRL and Super League winner, and Alex Stimpson, York Valkyrie player, were present for prize distribution. Lachlan participated in the run as well, showing his support for active lifestyles and community events.

Several rugby clubs participated in the Fun Run, including Goole, Skirlaugh, Myton, and West Hull. An integral part of the local sports scene, the Beverley Athletics Club, participated in the event as well. As well as fostering friendly competition, the event was also intended to raise funds for Hull-area junior rugby league clubs.

Pat Egan, one of the founders of the Fun Run, expressed his gratitude and reflected on the event’s impact. He said:

“I’ve had the privilege of being a part of the Beverley Braves Fun Run for the past 10 years, and now, it’s time for me to pass the baton on. This event has been a true team effort. From the dedicated volunteers to the enthusiastic participants, we’ve worked together to make each year a resounding success. Witnessing the joy on the faces of players and parents alike, while knowing that we are also raising funds to support junior rugby league in the Hull area, has been incredibly fulfilling. The Fun Run has become a symbol of unity, community spirit, and love for the sport. I’m grateful for the memories we’ve created and to see it thrive in the capable hands of others.”

Club chairperson, Neil Gay commented:

“Pat’s remarkable dedication to organising the Beverley Braves Fun Run will be sorely missed next year. His remarkable commitment to fostering community spirit and promoting active lifestyles has left an indelible mark on our club. Pat’s warm personality, tireless efforts, and exceptional organisational skills have made the Fun Run a cherished tradition, bringing people of all ages together for a day of laughter, camaraderie, and healthy competition. We express our deepest gratitude to Pat and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. While we’ll miss his presence, his legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the spirit of unity and enjoyment that he infused into every aspect of the Beverley Braves Fun Run.”

Marc Donnelly said:

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible volunteers who have dedicated their time and efforts to make the Beverley Braves Fun Run a tremendous success. Without your unwavering commitment and selfless contributions, this event simply would not be possible”.

Many happy faces and enthusiastic participants filled the Beverley Fun Run with joy and fulfillment. Physical activity and an active lifestyle are truly inspiring when individuals of all ages engage in them.

With the success of this year’s Fun Run as a foundation, organisers are confident that future events will be even more successful. Next year’s run will be even more impressive, building on this year’s achievements.

In addition to promoting teamwork, respect, and maintaining physical and mental health, the Beverley Fun Run demonstrated the importance of teamwork, respect, and good health. Parents naturally want the best for their children, and the Beverley Braves strive to provide a safe and enjoyable environment in which children can learn and play rugby.
