Glastonbury 2010: The ‘Old’ Boys are Back in Town

We left Beverley in the early hours (4am) on Wednesday morning, June 23rd. Arriving in Summerset in good time around 8.30am. Unfortunately the last 13 miles of traffic to the Worthy farm in Pilton was at a stand still, and took a further 7 hours until we reached the car parks, quite a frustrating experience in temperatures reaching 280 c and knowing that we had missed the England game kick off.

Never the less with our pitch saved in ‘Lime Kiln Ground’ by our mate Tris, the tent up and off we went to watch the second half in the Pyramid stage screen along with about 70 thousand fans.

The main stages kicked off on Friday with Rolf Harris who Steven Coates was desperate to see, headlining that night the Gorillaz with guests Lou Reed, Shaun Ryder &Snoop Dog, ‘most of the set contained new material from the new album which was dull and repetitive, & Damon Albarn had no interaction with his audience’ said Simon Burns.

Temperatures in the tent before 9am reached 340c so every morning became an early start, hung over or not. ‘It was great to get up early with sun beating down and we didn’t miss the early acts, you could catch up on your sleep in the afternoon lazing around listening to the bands’, explained Andy Foley.

This Summerset valley looked magical by night with 180 thousand music lovers dancing in to the early hours. The main stages closed before midnight prompt, whilst other areas danced on until sunrise. The Healing Field, Stone Circle, Arcadia, Shangri La, Block 9 & Dance Village were just a few of our regular haunts.

The Bad Idea secret garden was our favourite ‘We came across this place the first night, entering through a red phone box, and was that secret it took us until Saturday to find it again’, said Simon Burns.

Andy Foley danced along with 100 thousand Faithless fans at the Pyramid stage on Sunday night, ‘Brilliant, the best ever’ he said.
‘The Courteeners did a great performance also Ray Davis (Kinks) was fantastic on Sunday afternoon’ said Simon Burns.

The driest Glastonbury on record with temperatures being the hottest on the UK for years made the event a fantastic experience.
‘Good company, great mates, live bands and lots of cider made a great long weekend’ said Steven Coates.
