Rangers Sneak Through on Penalties

Molescroft

Molescroft made it through to the next round of the Country Cup against a well organised and useful Nafferton Old Boys side winning on penalties after the game finished 2-2 in normal and extra time.

Molescroft started the game at a terrific pace and took the lead five minutes in through top scorer Spruce who scored from close range for his seventh goal in five games.

Molescroft were fortunate to have Darren at the game as the commencement of Hull Fair usually sees him working on the waltzers with his traveller pals.  Moley went two up twenty minutes in with Captain Nicholson scoring from the spot after Sam Dixon had been brought down in the box.  Nafferton were reeling and Moley nearly scored a third with a flowing counter attacking move that which saw a Joe Coates effort well saved by the keeper.

This seemed to wake Nafferton up and they scored minutes before the end of the half giving them a foothold back into the game.  The second half saw Nafferton improve considerably and they equalised fifteen minutes from time leaving the game finely balanced.  Manager Healey looked to win the game in normal time, throwing on the Selby War Horse Sean Bolger for right back Richards who had to be subbed as the smell of his bandages was starting to annoy the opposition.

Neither team scored the all important fifth goal of the match and extra time was needed in which both teams had chances to win the match but a mixture of fortune and good goal keeping kept the scores level leaving the game to be decided by penalties.  Nicholson, Pardoe , Bolger all scored for Molescroft and once Bryce saved Naffertons third penalty and Warmsly scored Moleys fourth it was left to Spruce to tuck the fifth penalty away to the delight of Moleys large travelling contingent, Matthew Spencer.  Next Saturday sees Molescroft return to league action away at Long Riston Reserves.

Final score in the Junior Country Cup Nafferton Old Boys 2 Molescroft Rangers 2  (Molescroft 5-3 on pens)
