On a lovely Sunday morning Mill Lane Wizards went to Dene Park to take on the well thought off Hall Road Rangers in an important brace of games for both teams.
The first game started with both teams having a good share of the ball with the Wizards amazing defence of Charlie Miller and Ryan Elm keeping the Rangers forwards well and truly at bay with some fantastic defending. The game ebbed and flowed and with a minute left on the clock a fantastic pass from Zac Wise was picked up by Lloyd Bean whose shot just saved the outside of the post, the half ended 0-0.
The second half saw much of the same, with most of the action in midfield and Jack Thurston in goal having little to do, until 4 minutes from time when Hall Road broke through with a great individual run and slotted the ball home for a 1-0 lead. Try as they might the Wizards couldn’t get the goal back, and although they played out of their skin and introduced Ben Haysom in an unfamiliar strikers position it just wasn’t to be, the final score being 1-0 to Hall Road.
The second game saw Patrick Roscoe come on in midfield to play alongside Harry Sadler and instantly this brought an even more determined look to the team. The tackling from Mill Lane was outstanding with everyone giving it 110%, but still the game was close, and only a brilliant save from Tyler Nassau saw the Wizards go in at half time with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half saw Mill Lane continue fighting but with 2 minutes to go Rangers got through on goal and scored to make it 1-0 to Hall Road. This once again galvanised the Wizards who had the better of the possession and play and this soon led to Zac Wise chipping the keeper and the ball hitting the post, bouncing in the goal and going out, unfortunately it wasn’t a goal. The Wizards then threw everyone forward to try and get an equaliser but with seconds left Rangers broke again and scored another goal to make it 2-0 to Hall Road.
The Wizards can take pride in their performance today with every single player giving 110% to do their team and parents proud.
Man of the Match went to Patrick Roscoe for his tireless tackling and all round fantastic performance.
