The Blue and Golds’ returned to league action at Costello last Saturday and took both league points in less than convincing style.
They started promisingly when crisp handling sent Mike Cooper over for a try.
The home side replied with a try before Calum O’Connor forced his way over in the corner for the visitors. Then Louis Hubbard made an incisive break faced with options of Gavin Proctor and Lee Falcus to the right and left he chose Proctor who managed to find Steve Conley who in turn fed Mike Cooper for his second try wide out.
The hosts then took advantage of some slack defence to pull back a try and cut the deficit to 16-12 at the interval.
The second half saw Beverley look the better of the two sides but struggled to put the game to bed. Individuals were often snatching at chances and often trying to go from acting half back when they would have been better advised to move the ball out wide.
Rob Orsmond managed his first touchdown for the club forcing his way over from five metres out.
This was followed by another try for the home side before the visitors increased their lead. Rob Thompson did well to clean up some messy play which saw the ball bobble along the ground before he picked it up to beat several defenders to the line.
This sealed victory in a game that saw the man of the match award go to Lee Falcus who fielded all kicks and cleared his lines well and was always on hand to support any breaks.
Coach Richard Shaw commented very briefly ”a win is a win.”
